Headlines Shortlisted for major digital award

We are delighted to announce that one of our editorial features for the National Association of Head Teachers has been shortlisted for the 5th Annual Shorthand Awards.

The awards recognise the best-of-the-best digital stories published on the web during 2020.

The article ‘Covid-19: School leaders on the frontline’ appeared in NAHT’s digital version of its magazine, Leadership Focus, in the summer of 2020.

Through case studies, interviews and animation, it managed to highlight the plight of the head teacher during the initial phase of Covid-19, reaching a huge membership audience who were able to draw on each other’s own personal experiences and challenges.

The article was one of only three in the ‘Best Editorial Story’ category to be shortlisted for the final. The other finalists are Sky News and ZDFheute.

Shorthand said that the Judges looked at the articles across different browsers and devices. They studied the supporting notes, explored the variety of sections, looked at the use of media and interactivity, and immersed themselves in the words.

The winners of the Shorthand Awards will be announced at a virtual event in April.

David Gale, Publisher at Headlines said: “We are very excited that the article we put together alongside the NAHT team has been shortlisted in these awards. We have worked with NAHT on their magazine, Leadership Focus, for a number of years and have recently added a digital version to their channels. Everyone on the team has worked incredibly hard to make the Shorthand version work, particularly during the testing time when it was actually produced. The teaching industry has been particularly hard hit during Covid-19 and the digital article was an excellent opportunity to bring the challenges being faced on the frontline to life.”
