Lockdown loves: The very best in graphic fiction

The lockdown experience has been challenging for all of us and we have found solace and escape in a variety of ways. We asked the team at Headlines to share the things that made their lockdowns more bearable and made them smile in 2020.

No.7 The very best in graphic fiction

Selected by David Gale – Publisher

Why do you like it? What does it mean to you?

I have always loved comics and graphic novels since I was a kid. Being in lockdown gave me the opportunity to revisit many of the books I owned that I hadn't read for a while. It also gave me the chance to search out and order some more online to add to the collection.

What are your favourite aspects of graphic fiction?

I appreciate the genre completely and the great writers and illustrators who champion it. For me, it is all about escapism and immersing yourself in another world - seeing how a great story can still be told using words and wonderful illustrations.

How did it help you get through lockdown?

It was just nice to be able to dip in and out of the novels and get away from the computer screen, taking some downtime to forget about the world around you for a while.

In one sentence, why is it your lockdown love?

A chance to enter a fantasy world, enjoy great stories and amazing artwork.
